Wangdue Phodrang Festival

The Wangdue Phodrang region in central Bhutan is renowned for its eloquent speeches and songs called lozeys. This annual festival was established after the completion of the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong (fortress) in 1639.

Like many other festivals, both locals and tourists come together to rejoice and celebrate life. A highlight of the festival is the 'Dance of Ox,' where participants dance to ensure a peaceful afterlife. Similar to the Thimphu Tshechu, the festivities culminate with the unveiling of a large scroll adorned with various paintings, known as the Guru Tshengye Thongdrol. This moment is believed to be when the Buddhist blessings are bestowed and received.
